Elizabeth Ann Beth Butler (Scalet)

Elizabeth "Beth" Scalet, 65, Kansas City, Mo., passed away Sunday, March 16, 2014, at Kansas City Hospice House. A memorial event will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Turning Point, Paralyzed Veterans or Kansas City Hospice House. Beth was born Sept. 17, 1948, in Ottawa, Kan., the daughter of Walter L. and Jessie M. Tucker Butler. She was a graduate of Ottawa High School and received an MA in English Literature from the University of Kansas. Beth was a technical writer and editor for Continental Health Care and DST Systems. She was a recognized and popular guitar player, singer, songwriter and harmonica player. Beth issued six albums and CDs through her own music company, Marais des Cygnes Music. She was inducted into the Kansas Music Hall of Fame in 2008. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Rex. Beth is survived by her partner, Stephanie LaSalle, and her brothers, Walter "Bill" Butler and Robert "Bob" Butler.
