Ron and I learned how to play drums together, under Mr. Matthew's tutelage, starting in either 7th or 8th grade. Mr. Matthews often made the mistake of letting us practice together in the instrument room, and mischief ensued, naturally! I was pretty small, and could fold up enough to fit into one of the wooden boxes stored in the room, and Mr Matthews would pop in and wonder why Ron was in there 'practicing' by himself. I don't think he ever figured it out!
Hi Richard and Tom. Ron Matthews was at our recent Class of 66 luncheon. I apologized to him for the flak I gave his dad in band. I did take the opportunity to write his dad when I was in Navy boot camp and thank him for making us practice those rudiments because I qualified for the Recruit Drum and Bugle Corps. Marching around with a drum was certainly preferable to marching with a 1903 Springfield rifle which was what most had to do.
Hope you're doing well.
